This device has expired. Now what?
No more security updates will ever arrive for the Apple Watch 1st generation. If it's your daily phone, the safest move is to replace it — ideally with a model that stays supported for years. The old one still makes a fine offline camera, alarm clock or backup device.

Yes, it still works. But every security hole found after September 2018 stays open. For daily use with banking, messaging and passwords, a supported device is the safer choice. As a spare without your main accounts (alarm clock, music player, camera), it's still useful. Do a factory reset before you give it away or recycle it.
