This device has expired. Now what?
No more security updates will ever arrive for the Fairphone 3. If it's your daily phone, the safest move is to replace it — ideally with a model that stays supported for years. The old one still makes a fine offline camera, alarm clock or backup device.
The Fairphone 3 in detail
How many years of updates does the Fairphone 3 get?
Released in September 2019, the Fairphone 3 received security patches until September 2026: 7 years in total.
Among the 8 Fairphone phones in our database, 3 were supported for less time and 3 for longer. The median is 7 years.
Across all brands, the median for phones is 4 years.

Two schedules overlap here. New system versions stop in September 2024, security patches in September 2026. In between, the device stays on its last version but still gets fixes for security holes.
Can I keep using the Fairphone 3?
Yes, it still works. But every security hole found after September 2026 stays open. For daily use with banking, messaging and passwords, a supported device is the safer choice. As a spare without your main accounts (alarm clock, music player, camera), it's still useful. Do a factory reset before you give it away or recycle it.
